A book club is the perfect place
to meet with fellow book lovers and explore literary genres. Books Clubs in the
Nebraska, Iowa, and Texas have invited MK Leatherman to their discussions of her
books.
The Woodlands, Texas – Wendy Jordan hosted this fun group and their book club!
What a fun evening! Hosted by Laura Weaver, with a discussion led by Sally Kreis, this night was all about sharing. Robin and I learned about the P.E.O. SISTERHOOD. Member Cindy shared the history of PEO, which was founded January 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa. PEO is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunities for higher education.
Sally shared her experience from a previous book club where she led another discussion about Vanity Insanity. Everyone shared stories about places and events in the book. I even ran into a former teacher from my days at Saint Pius X. What are the odds! Great food, sisterhood, and stories: a great night of sharing!
This evening was amazing with the perfect hostess team: sisters Amy and Mary Morris. This group of ladies asked great questions and offered some of the most unique insight to Vanity Insanity. While the discussion was perfect, the added flair of a meal just like a lunch at Saint Pius X back in the seventies completed a perfect evening. Our plates were filled fish sticks (It was Friday), tater tots, fruit salad and the ever popular sugar cookies. I can’t forget the most memorable item on the menu for me: peanut butter on apple slices. What a hoot! This group makes the book selection and typically designs the meal around something in that book selection. What a neat group of ladies!
Hosted by Pat Gawronski, this lovely group of ladies from The Woodlands was anything but remedial. The humorous name came after a confusion of the chosen book for a book club night and the group was divided on reading two different books from the same author. Some of the greatest questions about writing came from members of this group. We left the fun night to be greeted by one of the biggest snowfalls Houston has had in years!
A great book club in Houston, Texas!
What a great evening with these ladies! This is a new book club, and, like most book clubs, these ladies meet monthly and love mixing wine and literature. Unlike most book clubs, this group has a unique way of selecting the book for their next gathering. Rather than have the host pick a book for the group to read, this book club decided to have the host choose three books, and the ladies vote on which book they want to read. We had a great time revisiting Vanity Insanity on a chilly March night!
lthough the title BBC Book Club might be redundant, everything about this group of ladies is worth repeating! Hosted by Jeanne Hauser, this book club was such a fun time. Jeanne’s beautiful home with a meal of stew, pie and homemade ice cream were a beautiful backdrop to a great discussion of Cowboys to Camelot. Richard Mangus, my dad and the source of the cowboy stories in the book, and my sister and editor Robin Boeck joined the dinner and discussion. What a wonderful night!
Where to begin… this book club was awesome! For the past eleven years, these ladies have been talking about books. We stumbled upon them when my sister saw a group of women with books at the Beacon Hills restaurant in Aksarben Village in January. She did not even know them but told them about Cowboys to Camelot, which hostess Jeri Christ picked for their March book. Great discussion and lots of laughter. Even though they are the 300 Pages or Less Book Club, they don’t always follow that rule
A book club with wine in the Old Market? You bet! Robin and I sat with the ladies of the Pusey Elementary Book Club in the La Buvette, sipping wine and talking about books while an Omaha snow day was announced. This group of educators could relate to the four quarters of the school year in Cowboys to Camelot as every member is an educator. At one time, Pusey Elementary School was the connection for them all. This fun book club, hosted by Kim Kazmierczak on Wednesday, has been meeting monthly for over 15 years. They meet in different places and read a variety of books. They had so many fun stories to share. What a fun evening!
What a fun evening! I was so happy to have been invited back to The Scary Book League. These ladies made me laugh and made me think! I remembered how much I enjoyed their questions and discussions about Vanity Insanity, so I knew it would be another fun time with Cowboys to Camelot. I look forward to future evenings with these ladies.
What a fun night! Carol Gabler was the connector and Brenda Graumann was the amazing hostess of a great discussion with women who know their books. With a rich history of some serious reading, these ladies have a backstory to their group that began twelve years ago with- wait for it- a turtle! The story of a a turtle picked up from a busy road on the way to the first book club topped off a perfect evening!
Hosted by Cindy Tooher. What a fabulous group of women! So enjoyed this group. Great discussion and even better Pumpkin Chili!
